Winter Skin

BURRRRR...........The cold is here!
What does this mean for our skin?

Each day your skin loses approximately 2 cups of water through (TEWL) trans epidermal water loss. When the humidity drops such as it has been lately, this TEWL is increased dramatically! With less water and fewer lipids to lubricate and protect your skin, your skin no longer exfoliates properly. What does this mean? Dryness,... flakiness, dehydration! The drier your skin is the older you look!

Remember friends during this time of the year its especially important to moisturize, hydrate and exfoliate your skin.

Start with using a moisturizer that is rich in humectants and emollients, and remember to re-apply moisturizer every few hours. Examples of humectants: hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, glycerin, urea, propylene glycol and sorbitol. Examples of emollients: lanolin, isopropyl palmitate, jojoba oils and shea butter. Coconut oil can be used on the body but NOT the face, especially if you are acne prone.

Additional suggestions: (1) Exfoliate once a week with a high grade chemical exfoliate. (2) Drinks lots of H2O. (3) Take fewer showers/baths and use cooler water. (4) Avoid harsh soaps. (4) Use a humidifier.
